My '00 dually has the factory aluminum rims on it. I like the way they look, especially when they are cleaned and shined up good. The previous owner ran the left front wheel/tire into something right before I got the truck and damaged the center cap, and scuffed the rim some (and it may have been more than just a coincidence that the left front wheel hub assembly went bad, but the world may never know). I have been patiently searching for a replacement center cap at a reasonable price, but have had no luck, mostly searching ebay other Internet resources. Also, the last time I had the truck at the tire store for a rotation, they told me that the rim lip was bent a little, not enough to keep me from being able to use the wheel, but enough to make it a little tough for them to balance the tire. Also, the clear-coat is now starting to bubble up and peel off on that one rim. I would love to be able to afford to buy a new set, but those are so expensive, especially for a person like me who has been unemployed for 4 months. I would even like to have a set like I have seen in the pictures of the 2005 truck., but I bet those are even HIGHER! I guess the cheapest thing for me to do is nothing. I like the basic design of the stock wheels, but I am not opposed to aftermarket. What are your opinions? Does anyone have any idea about how much a set of wheels for this rig would be? Where would be a good place to inquire about buying some?
Thanks for the advice and for taking time to read my ramblings.........
The guy I just bought my truck from had to replace one of my rears. They are the same right? It was 280 I think he said with a small discount. I saw these new Alcoas on Ebay, which I think look awsome! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43956
Go with common sense on this issue at this time. The wheel still rolls in a circular motion, right? You're unemplyed and shouldn't be spending money on truck stuff right now, right? (like myself, BTW, so I speak from a common ground). Spending money on a wheel or a new set of wheels right now doesn't put food on the table or pay the rent (so to speak). So, for right now, I'd suggest skipping the wheel issue, save the money in case 4 months turns into 6 or 8 months, THEN once you get back on your feet and are working, then look into the wheel issue.
Just my $.02 cents. I don't mean to sound grumpy, but I'm with you on the unemployed thing... and man, it sucks.
Hang in there, good luck on the job search... Save your money for now.
