can chrome running boards be rustproofed?
Has anyone ever pulled the plastic end-caps off of the chrome running board side-step bars?
Are they hollow inside and can they be rustproofed?
After seeing a buddy’s chrome running boards rust away, I am wondering if there is a good way to prevent this, other than a good chrome polish ???

the best way top go is with a stainless set but if you have chrome its going to take alot of work to keep them up. i have chrome exhaust tips on my truck and i am chrome polishing them all the time. the tube step are hollow and if you can figure out a way to prep and somehow get undercoating in there it sould be done. as far as the outside you will either have to chrome polish alot or have them clear coated. either by powder coating or taking it to a body shop. powder coating might be better. i seen on the show american choppers that they have bike parts coppered and them cleared over so it would not turn green. i know the tube step are expensive and this stuff will cost to do but it will save you money in the long run.

you got that right but the only thing i do not like about the stainless tips they offerned where i got my exhaust done is that they turn a gold color cause of the heat. so i am forever polishing my tips.

thanks for the comments. The rustproof system I use involves drilling the body, and plastic capping the hole after injecting the KROWN product into the fenders, floor panels etc. I am wondering if anyone has ever taken off the plastic end caps from the chrome step tubes and rustproofed the inside, or if they should be drilled and capped like they do the rest of the truck when they rustproof it.
