AC not working

Ac has not worked sence I bought my truck (87 f250 6.9 idi.)
I found that the compressor is not on. Switch lights up inside and fuse is good. I powered up the compressor and the clutch works.
Is there a relay some where for the AC?
AC did not work with the pump working maybe recharge or need the relay to power the rest of the componets.
Thanks
Steve

your charge is low. If you want to update to r-134, have a shop vac the system down, and then folow instructions on an update kit you can buy from Wal Mart or nearly any parts store or department store of most any kind. If they carry automotive, chances are they have the kit.

There is probably a leak in the system somewhere. Look around the clutch drive on the compressor for telltale signs of compressor oil seaping from the seal. go to a/c shop and have them check the system for you. there is a sensor in the system to shut the system down if the charge gets too low and another sensor to shut it down if there is too much pressure in the system.

AC systems will leak down over time, so it isn't always a repair situation, but by vac'ing the system down, they will know if there is a serviceable leak or not.If they can't actually pull a vacuum, it is leaking.
