Question no throttle response

The other day i was driving around in my '95 f-350 powerstroke and i lost my throttle. I pushed the gas pedal to the floor three to four times and nothing. Then after about 10 seconds the truck reved up and my check engine light came on. I shut it off and started it back up and the check engine light went out and then about 5 minutes later it did it again. Has anyone had this happen to them? If so what could it be. I also started to notice that when i'm driving at a constant speed is almost feels like the engine is misfiring and sometimes surges. Could this be related to the other problem or is this something different?

It's on the top of the engine. I can't give you any help with the testing because I didn't change mine myself. HERE is a website that gives directions on removal. Hopefully others will chime in as well. I'm sure that there are other possible problems, but the HPOP was the problem on mine.

Might check out the throttle position sensor on top of the gas pedal, especially if it's been wet inside the cab lately.

Over the last few days i've noticed that when the check engine light comes on it doesn't surg or miss when going at a constant speed but when i lose throttle response it doesn't come back till i shut off the truck and restart it. Any one got an idea if this is the hpop going or is this something else?

I would refer you to the "dieselmann's website. He addresses this issue. I believe you have a bad padal assembly. It can't be repaired, it must be replaced. I think the cost is about $80.

Here are a couple threads talking about the same issue. My truck has the same problem occassionally. If you look up high in the pedal assembly there is a tiny piece of metal that makes contact when you press the pedal. Just so you know you are on the right track, you can duplicate the problem by holding this piece in place and then press the pedal. This prevents the RPMs from increasing and also triggers the Check Engine light. Quadzilla recommended to very carefully bend this piece of metal. On my first attempt I tried to wipe it down and make sure there was no crud on it. I thought this took care of it, but it came back after a week or two. Next time I think about it I will try to bend it very slightly like Quad recommends in one of the below threads.
