I have a 1993 f-250 7.3 liter non-turbo. I have water leaking out around the oil filter and i was told it was the oil filter adapter gaskets and O-RINGS. how hard is it to replace these gaskets.
The gaskets on the block should be fairly straight forward, but I'd stay clear of the cooler O-rings. They only leak oil. There's 4 bolts in front and 4 in back of the cooler. Take the oil filter off and save it if you aren't going to change oil. Then drain the water, including the left side block plug (if you can get it out). If not get ready for a shower when you pull the cooler bolts and break it loose. You should be able to snake it out without too much trouble, probably have to pull the power steering pump out of the way. I've bought both gaskets from NAPA, just clean the surfaces and put it back together. Be carefull with the cooler itself, try not to disturb the end caps on the tube. You can replace the cooler o-rings too, but they are a real bear.
I had to order them through the dealer because NAPA didn't carry them. Those are most expensive gaskets i have ever bought, guess that comes with the territory when you have a diesel. What coolent would you recomend using when i get done. Thanks for the help.
