Last night my two sons and I left about 2:30 A.M. for our hunting lease to go hog hunting. We were pulling a daul axel single wheel trailer similar to a 2 horse, horse trailer behind my '03' F-350 2 WD Super Duty long bed. I'm not sure of the weight, however, we had 2 generators, 1 ac window unit, several hundred pounds of feed corn plus odds and ends. The week before I had just got around to extending the safty chains to fit my new truck and during the process I was not able to find the type of links that I would have liked to use to make the extension and used what I could find at the time, which was a link that has a threaded long hex type nut for quick disconnect. The rating was less than what I would liked to have used, but I thought at least it would work for the time. What the heck their just for looks anyway. "RIGHT" We had the cruse set at 70mph, and about 10 miles from our place all hell broke loose. Both my boys were yelling get the truck stopped we have a blow out.
"Dad knows best" I knew instantly that the trailer had come loose for what ever reason, and if I had hit the brakes my truck and trailer wood have become one. In my rearview I saw both sides of the unit come off the ground at different times and had I not have had my F-350, 6.0 I'm sure I would have lost it all. My rearend never broke loose from the road and I was able to get stopped safely. Ontop of all that the only damage to my truck was the lose of my left side lisence plate light and a bent bracket for my trialer lights. I thanked God and man I love my 350,
