I recently installed warn manual hubs on my '93 explorer. I have noticed that when I round a corner(especially sharp right hand turns)that the truck does not starighten out on it's own, but i actually have to steer it straight. I have also noticed that once in a while it seems to want to make a right hand turn on it's own.(not good!!!). I have rechecked the wheel bearings and they do not seem too tight and the caliper seems fine. Ball joints seem tight. How freely should the wheel spin when it's up on jacks? Any ideas out there???? I think I may take it to a pro b-fore I end up wrapped around a tree.
Thanks...
I had the same thing on my 92, would turn a corner and have to turn the truck straight. It needed up and lower ball joints, both worn out. In order to
replace them you need a special tool called a ball joint press...its like a "C" clamp with cups to push out the old ones and to install the new ones. They where very dry and rusted pretty good. After I replaced them and did a grease job, everything was back to normal and steering would return on its own. Without a ball joint press...don't even attempt it...you'll damage them for sure. You have to have the front wheels off the ground and place a good solid bar under the tire and lift up and down for movement...you won't detect any wear any other way. 90% sure this is your problem.
