I have a 1999 7.3 PSD (early version) and recently installed a Banks Stinger kit complete with guages. I have not seen any boost beyond 20 registered. Furthermore, when traveling down the freeway at 65 mph, there is no boost at all. In fact most of the time (unless I am mashing the throttle), there is no boost. I can be driving surface streets, hit a hill that forces a drop out of OD and never see the boost guage leave 0. Is this typical?
From what I have seen this is true a little the boost is only needed when you demand a lot out of the engine, the expressway is a coast unless you hit a hill and have ot mash on it, and 20lb is great, stock is about 14-16 and max I have read is 25 some people push it but I wouldnt.
For reference, when I'm at 2000rpms on the freeway on flat ground, I'm producing 3psi boost. As soon as I hit any rise in the road, my boost climbs. If you're not seeing any boost unless you're mashing the throttle enough to pop it out of OD, then somethin' ain't right.
If the truck seems to be running OK and not sluggish, I'd check for a leak in the line from the MAP sensor to the gauge. If you've got a leak, then the boost you're actually getting isn't registering on the gauge.
With a Banks Stinger, I'd expect you to be able to hit the mid 20's for boost. I've got the equivalent of a Stinger Plus, and propane, and I go over 30 when the need arises, like when a Dodge shows up.
Look at where your gauge t's into the line and ensure this connection is tight. After playing under my hood a few weeks ago I bumped mine loose and was reading no more then about 5 psi. Simple fix just frustrating until I found it.
The truck run great and the boost is definitely coming on quicker than stock. I had the shop that installed the kit confirm there were no leaks, but after reading these replies...I will take a closer look for leaks.
Mystery solved....there was a kink in the hose at the guage...now am seeing 2-3 lbs at 70mph and a full range of boost is showing while driving. Thanks to all who responded; this problem has been chased by my installer for 3 visits. I was able to use your info and find it in one hour!

Quad,
I just hooked my gauges up and I am seeing 18-20 under heavy accel. Under 2000rpm, say on back streets crusing at 35 ot 40 mph, shoud I see a steady boost reading OR is it only when I get on the throttle?

What you're seeing sounds fairly normal. If I accelerate gradually, I don't get any boost on my truck until I get up to about 1700 rpm in OD. That's when the needle starts to move. When you're accelerating a little more aggressively, you should see boost until you ease up on the throttle. If you accelerate slowly, like when your Grandmother is with you, you might not see any boost at all. It's only when accelerating briskly that you'll see boost.
I hope this helps.
Thank you. This is exactly what I am getting so I think I am good with the Boost. I just finished hooking up my Pyro and Trans and they are working too. The EGT hovers around 400° to 600° and under have accel. gets almost to 850° - 950°... Does this sound right? The trans is staying around 200° with no load and it took it about 10 miles of normal driving to get to this temp.
The HPX hose is next. Any idea where I can get torque specs. on the fittings that screws into the intake (should the O-rings be completely flat) as well as the hose fittings? My HPX is from Dale.
Sorry for getting off topic and again, thanks for the help.
