I owned a 2000 Tundra and it had rack & pinion steering. They had a shimmy
problem. It seemed that the rack & pinion steering in a heavy truck with heavy tall tires made things like tire balance and alignment critical. The solution that solved everybody's problem was to use the upper end of the
alignment specs which provided a touch more tow in among other things and
a good road force balancing. For some reason a even smoother ride was gotten from a switch to Michelins. I drove that truck for 30,000 miles with no adverse tire wear and no shimmy whats so ever.

I could not agree more. I am not convinced on the rack and pinion steering for a truck yet. I would like to see a stabalizer on it. Mine shimmied. I had a front end alignment and tires rotated. It is gone for now. I can't wait for the BFG's to wear out so I can pick up some Michelins.
