I recently bought a used 351W to replace the one in my truck. The used engine had a manual gearbox bolted upto it, while my truck has a C-6. With respect to the engine being balanced, do I just swap my flywheel from the auto over to the new engine? The should be weighted the same, I hope :-)
im not too sure but to the best of my knowledge they are the same, now year may come into play on this one. What year is the engine you have and the engine you bought to replace it? they should be the same if they are close in years. if in doubt check with your dealership to see or a local speed shop (make sure you are talking to a guy who knows his stuff) they should be able to nail this down for you.
Make sure you pull the pilot bushing/bearing from the rear of the crank of your donor engine. It won't let your torque converter slide into your crank, and will give you fits if you forgot to do this.
All 351w's that I know of use a 28 oz balance so your old 351w flywheel and bolts will transfer over. Like steve said, take out the pilot bearing or bushing too!
I'm doing a swap with a 302 from an 87 Crown Vic with an automatic. Since I'm using a T-18 in the change I've aquired a external hydraulic clutch bellhousing and new manual transmission flywheel for an 84 F-150. Will this work together?
Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure if the windsors changed flywheel weights over the years. Unfortunately, the block I bought is junk so I'm back to square one.
