Speed Sensor

What are the signs that the transmission speed sensor is shot? I read somewhere that it's typical for Bronco's because water seeped into them.

I still can't figure out what's making noise right under the hump in my truck. It doesn't happen all the time but it's like a metal on plastic rubbing or rattling noise and I can feel it if I put my hand on the floor. Anybody have any ideas??

Sorry about the two questions, I'll make sure to only ask one in the future.

I guess form reading other posts that the Speedo goes if the sensor is bad and I'm not having that problem. As far as the rattle/ grind/vibration/chatter or whatever the heck that sound is I'm going to have to keep digging. I was going to by a diagnostic comp for $300 last year but didn't see the need having owned at the time a 77 Nova. I wish I would've done it now. Looks like I'm going to have to pony up the dough to get it hooked up.

Thanks,
Jay
