strange starting behavior, has anyone else noticed this?
I recently bought a 2000 F150 with the 4.2 V-6. The truck has 63,000 miles on it and runs really well.
It seems to be a great trick. The only unusual thing about this truck to me is the way the engine starts. It has a different "feel" than every other car I've driven. I was wondering if this was the case for all 4.2's.
Here is my best attempt to put this into words:
When I turn the key to the start position, the engine cranks fine but the engine doesn't fire up while in this position. When I let the key spring back to the run position, there is a breif period where the engine seems to be stopped -- in between the time when the starter is turning the engine and when the engine fires and starts running on its own. It is very strange!
Those reading this will either understand the description because they have noticed the same thing, or they will think I am completely crazy. Either way, let me know...
I have had the same thing happen on a rare occasion where its like "rerrr rerrr rerrr rerrr ...pause... Vroommm" yea yea yuck it up but theres limited sound capabilities on here... either way i get what u r sayin if its an everyday thing and you dont have any other problems with it it may just be the way it likes to start... if you are worried about it take it to Ford and have it diagnosed....
