Air conditioning

Any of you guys have any tips on installing air conditioning in a 1976 F250? I think i found a donor with the same motor that is in my truck (390). Is it better to swap old coponents, or go with some kind of aftermarket system?

I swapped the system from a '79 into my '77 years ago, and used a few parts from a '73 like the heater core (didn't leak like the '79 one did, still doesn't either) and controls that have "Air Conditioning" spelled out in script.

I used new dryer, evaporator, and condenser, and we put a new orifice in it. Did that in about '87, just added the first can of freon to it the other day, it has been a "tight system". I am going to have to replace the thermal switch because after about 30 minutes the eveporator starts icing uup and I have to switch to vent for a few minutes and get cold air off that block of ice till it melts, then switch back on ... but it works.

Before you leave the donor truck, after you have removed everything up to the vents and ducting and defroster vents and the instrument bezell plastic, make you some cardbord templates of the hole in the firewall with screw holes maked and key it to certain features of the firewall that are the same as your's as you will have to cut that hole in your's. Also make templates for vent holes in face of dash at center and over on pass side. ..... or swap dash completely.

Go with 134 now.
