Swap 88 302 into 94 truck

Hello guys. I'm new to fords and need some help. I just picked up a 94 f150 4x4 xlt with a bad motor (thrown rod). I have a friend with an 88 f250 with a good running 302.

If I understand correctly the 2 major differences are firing order, and batch vs. sequential fi.

I would like to keep the intake stuff and sfi computer from the 94 and do a "long block" swap with the 88 motor. Is this possible? I guess I need to know how the sfi computer would determine what position to fire. Some kind of HAL effect sensor, but I don't know where it would be...

Or should I just use the computer from the 88? Do I need to swap the harness? - at that point it's too much work, and I would rather find a HO motor.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Max

You didn't tell us what engine is in the 94....

The 94 will only be SEFI if it is MAF..which would only be if it were a california emissions vehicle. If there is a sensor between the air box and the throttle body, than it is MAF, if not...it's SD.

Once I know what engine is in the 94..I can explain what to do.

My Bad. - I also just found the engine swap section of this forum...

I haven't picked up the truck yet so until Sat I'll have to use some luck and logic...

I'll fedex you some beer and / or brownies if it's a CA truck. I also don't remember any MAF snesor (I know what they look like ) on the intake...

However when I ran the vin, it came up HO.

The vin is 1FTEX14N7RKA79603 - It looks "very" similar to the efi 302 from the 88.
