I have a 88 Ford F-250 with the 7.3 Diesel engine. This engine will not start or even give an indication it is going to start. Even a little ether or starting fluid doesn't affect it any. The cold start solenoid and other things have been checked on it but I am not sure what the problem is. Poured some transmission fluid in the intake because it has been sitting for a while. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
Try plugging in the block heater and letting it sit for about two hours. Then try starting it.
When I was having problems with my glow plugs this is the only way I could get mine to start. Just an idea.
Let us know what happens.
Either with glow plugs is a big no-no. Usually either will just make them lock up on the starter anyway. Crack loose the injector lines and see if they squirt fuel. Maybe first thing would be to bleed the little valve core on the side of the fuel filter while cranking it.
Like a bonehead, I ran mine out of fuel a few months back. Luckily, I was at home, but the thing wouldn't even act like it had ever started until I removed the filter and filled it full of deisel. After that, it fired and ran like a champ again.
If it is not giving an indication of starting with starting fluid then that would be som thing more then lack of fuel, it should still fire. had no glow system on one and a bad ip and it still fired but not for long.
Is it turnig over fast enough to fire up? Maybe the previous owner cranked on the starter and got it fried. You should get fuel out of the bleeder valve on the filter housing, even with slow cranking. But either with glow plugs is like holding a lit candle next to a leaky propane cylinder. See if you get fuel at the filter base, then Get it cranking over fast enough first and go from there. DONT CRANK ON THE STARTER TOO LONG, its much like me, very sensitive. Get back with your findings.
