I'm looking to buy a used 91-95 ranger, wil probobly have close to 100,000 miles. What kind of things should I look at before I buy one, other that the normal stuff. I want to get a 4 cylinder with a 5 speed. I've got a 97 Expy and I'm looking for a back and forth to work truck that gets better MPG's.
In 95 they totally redesigned the ranger, the exterior is almost the same but the dash is different,I like the 95 better.its more user friendly.but the 95 also got the OBD II system which is more complacated, but still a good system.Anyway, you want a truck that starts instantly, shifts smoothly, and has no vibrations.also check for oil leaks.I always liked the expression on a sellsmans face when I would drop and disappear under a truck.Ask about maintinance records from a dealer.and if the interior is ragged, the owner probably didnt take care of it in other ways either.check for rust.Do a freeway test drive if you can, pull over and turn it of and start it a couple times once it gets hot.when you get back look under for coolant leaks.I could go on and on but you get the idea.I would opt for an XLT W/air tho, GOOD LUCK!
Well, mine is a 91, 125k, 2.3 w/ 5 speed. No power at all, but she never gives me any trouble. For a decent one like mine, you can expect to spend around $2-3500. I have really NEVER had any major problems on mine at all, just the starter. It was very easy to change, although, it cost me $165. I certainly recomend getting one.
My 87 has some high tech/state of the art features that I really like. Such as cable controlled heat/AC controls that have given me zero problems in 222K miles. One O-2 sensor instead of 4. REAL twin I suspension with king pins that never ever goes out of alignment & has only cost me 40 bucks for a set of tie rod ends, havent even changed the front shocks yet. The factory clutch made it to 180K miles & i've had no transmission problems. Now that it's nicely broken in, i'm looking forward to the next 222K miles.
