Do any of yall know for certain if there are any problems with running ported/polished stock heads on a 302 or 351W with speed density EFI? I am wanting to do a port/polish job (along with some other mods) to an 87 Bronco with a 302 in it, but am concerned about how the EEC will react since it has SD instead of MAF. I know I can put an aftermarket intake and headers on ( )with no other changes required. I have heard different opinions about installing an RV cam in a SD EFI motor, though. However, I can't seem to find a definitive answer about the heads. Can any of you help?
My '86 has Trick Flow heads on a new roller cam block. "Explorer hi-torque roller cam", which I think is a late 302 stock cam.
Engine will not idle after a computer reset. The throttle has to be "feathered" until the oxygen sensor heats up and the computer is able to adjust it's fuel maps. After that, the engine can be shut off and restarted with a normal idle.
From what I've heard the main thing that speed density can't handle is a cam with lobe seperation less than 114 degrees.
Stroking the engine, and forced induction may also lead to problems. I've heard mixed opinions about solutions, but would definitely suggest MAF or an aftermarket computer for either of those situations.
