Brakes Help PLEASE

Hello again, I own a 1986 F-150 4x2 302 efi. I just got a call from my dad, he told me there is not much pressure when he pushs down the brake pedal and it almost reaches to the floor. The truck stopped but at a slow speed, my dad opened the hood and says the front compartment of the brake master cylinder is low on fluid. Not being an expert on brakes I just said try putting some more fluid in it but, I dont know why it would be low do I have a leak? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Charlie

Sounds like you do have a leak, where else would the fluid go. Now just adding fluid will help for a short period, but the spongy feel and lack of pedal is most likely air in the system. Have dad pump the brake and once it's up hold pressure while you release the bleeder on each wheel. Hold the pedal down while you close the bleeder, then pump and bleed again. It takes a little while but is fairly easy. Bleeder should be on the top of the disk brake caliper and coming out or the cylinders on the drum brakes.

Thank you for you help, I was planing on going to a friends to ride my quad this weekend he only lives a few miles away, do you feel it would be safe to fill the master cylinder and and drive there and back? That is if it is not leaking very fast.

it doesn't take to long to bleed brakes, and check for leaks.
Not as long as it does to fill out an accident report anyhow,
