I almost fell about 30 feet out of a tree yesterday-how??? I was making a mud pit to play in-DUH!!! I've got a spot on my property that a tiny stream runs across and ive been wanting to grind it into a play pit, so this is the year I decided. I went out on sun and flogged the bronc around untill I got stuck. Had a pretty good start but I noticed, theres mud potential all through here but theres three trees in the way of making it a good sized hole, so they gotta go. Yesterday I hooked the winch to the smallest one and out it came (were getting a lot of rain here lately and the stream runs right next to the trees, so the ground is pretty soft) It left a good sized hole, would probably give a 38 a hard time. The other two trees are about 16-18 inches in diameter at base so I decided to hook up high and pull them over, hoping to pry roots out of ground(and leave a wicked-*** hole behind) There werent many branches and half of them were dead- I made it up with the chain, winch cable and ****** block -got it all hooked up and then leaned out to start the trip back down-CRUNCH!!!!!! -Its amazing how your survival instincts take over without you even thinking, I only fell about 5 ft before each arm found the only two sturdy branches around, but the really odd thing is that while my reflexes took over my brain was thinking "The ground is soft and mushy maybe I'll be OK" and I'm picturing the episode of King of The Hill where Peggy and Hank go parachuting and her chute dosnt open. The image of Peggy going SPLAT in the mud was in my head as I'm falling. Anyway, got one tree down -one to go
Sounds like your not drinking enough beer during this operation, Wylde. No really, it keeps you loose when you hit the ground and lessens the chance of breaking anything. Don't ask me how I know.
I was a tree hugger to get the second one down- no decent branches to speak of to grab so I wrapped my arms and legs around the trunk and kind of "humped" my way up. both trees are down now but I didnt get roots pryed out of ground like I hoped for- got a buddy with a huge wrecker that Ill borrow to try to pull them suckers out the rest of the way-no sense tearing up my stuff- Ive heard stories about drunks or people falling asleep and then crashing horribly but are OK because they were so limp.
