56 "Big Window" Pick up question

Does a 56 "Big Window" wrap around the rear of the cab or does it just have a larger window than a stock truck. If anyone has any pictuers of the two versions please send them. James@toostoopid.com I'm asking because I just came across an opertunity to buy a 56 "Big Window" for a great price, but I haven't seen the truck yet. My other question is what would be a decent price for a 56 Big Window in poor condition.

Thanx Guys
Jim

Take a look in the gallery. The link is in the upper right hand corner. You can sort by year. Looks like there are about 50 trucks to look at. Should answer your window question. Can't help on the price. Depends on the condition of sheet metal, drivetrain, etc.

Hope this helps!

The "greatness" of the price is dependent on the amount of work you will need to accomplish before it is at the desired state of readiness. If your goal is a show truck and the new one needs everything redone from bumper to bumper, then count on $20 -30K. If you want to spend a more modest $5-8K then you will need a truck that is a runner and will require only moderate fixxing up. So start with a budget in mind and don't over spend. There are lots of trucks out there that owners have given up on. I bought my 54 two years ago for $4400. It already had a rebuilt engine, tranny, with a volare IFS, 9" rearend, tilt hood, Lokar, ect. ect. Look for deals! John

Thanx for the input guys. I guess what I was really looking for was an answer on how rare "Big Windows" are. Looking through the gallery there were a few big windows and even a big window longbed. If you were to find one with straight metal and in a close to running condition, what would be the most you'd pay?

Once again, Thanx

Jim

There were approx. 6200 big windows produced in 56. stock or custom? what are you looking for? A stock truck to someone who wants a custom truck isnt worth much or vise versa. hows the roof at the rain gutter? all the trim there? factory radio? orignal engine (v-8 or 6)? overdrive or fordomatic or standard 3speed trans? I've paid as little as $200 and as much as $10,000 for a project. It just depends how bad you want it and how bad they want to sell!

One thing's for sure. Once you buy your project, another one will come along shortly that is better and cheaper! Good luck, John
