do carbs wear out?
i have a motorcraft 2150 in my truck (77f250) and i just rebuilt it. my problem still exists and i just want to know if there is a point when a carb is unrebuildable.
Also, i have a chassis mounted aftermarket fuel pump feeding the block mounted mechanical pump. why is this?

Yep, carbs can wear out to the point that a rebuild won't do much help. One thing to watch out for is too much play in the throttle shaft. If the throttle shaft is sloppy and can wiggle around, its time to find a new throttle body.

I agree with fmc400. What is it not doing right for you? Ive got a 400 in a 75 cougar that always had a bad hesitation. I tryed diffrent jets and accelrator pumps, diffrent springs in the distributer , and the list go on. I found my problem was the power valve. I would not open unitl manifold vacume got all the way down to 6.5 inchs so I put a custom power vale that open at 10. inches vacume insted. Wow what a diffence lots more low end grunt and better idle. Did the same for my old 460 in my truck and was able to drop a jet size and get a little bit better fuel milage. Maybe this will help just mt to cents for what its worth.

my truck idles like fuel is spurting into it. wants to die at a very even rate. most would say this is irratic idle due to a vacuum leak, but i have checked all the vacuum lines and sprayed carb clener around the acarb until i was afraid that it would catch fire. i hoping a new carb will do the trick
