I haven't heard anything, but it seems unlikely. I heard last year that Cat was getting the Dodge contract from cummins, that ain't happen' either.

Hello Greetings
Well their engines are not cheap.10,000 does not get you much. And you will not want to rebuild one.

I love Cat engines, but they are not going to be put in any of the Big 3 for a while. I new one guy he swore that his PSD was a Cat desin, then another person claimed their PSD had a Cat Carbuerator, I though PSDs were "fuel injected"?

Hey logan does the duramax have a carb? must be some Jap design. Never seen or heard of a diesel engine with a carburator on it. Only injection pumps.

Les: At the risk of nit picking, Cat uses Navistar designed injectors. Cat manufactures them for us under a licensing agreement. These are first generation injectors. The new engine will have second generation injectors manufactured under a licensing agreement with Seamans (spelling may be incorrect) -- a German based company who, as I understand it, is building a plant in South Carolina for the manufacture of these injectors.

Joe, you are absolutely right! Ford used to have a stake in Cummins but not any longer. Miller Andersson is their largest share holder at 23%.

I doubt any OEM will install a Cat engine in a P/U anytime soon. US02 emissions take effect Oct. 2002 and Cat won't have an on-highway engine of any size available until 3rd quarter 2003. Cat would be foolish to try to penetrate such a small market. Truck engines make up 45% of their engine production which is 35% of their total business. An engine of this size would most likely be a Perkins engine anyway.

No, in fact the duramax does not have a carb. And the durmax was first designed (the prototype) buy a company that builds tugboat engines. But I think (could be wrong here) the final product was built by isuzu. I think it's because GM never could build a good diesel, or at least one that didn't leak oil eveywhere!
