I'm getting a Dee Zee black chest ... hopefully this week. It's going to run $229 plus tax from my local Tractor Supply Company store. As soon as it's in, I'll take pics.
For a quick look at it (dimensions, etc.), see 83B at the bottom of this page.
Be aware that the 72" tool box from UWS fits the new 04 F150 Super Crew. I purchased the 69" because the dealer said the 72" would not fit. However, my sone found a used 72" and it fit perfectly. I mean it looks like it was made for it. Better still, the used one he purchase had the inside sprayed with bed liner which gives it a nice finish. It also keeps the alumnium powder from getting on everything. The 72" from UWS fit better and looks great. Set it on your truck just to make sure you like the fit.
"...just get a tonneau cover, the bed on that thing is small enough to qualify for a tool box."
For the most part, I agree with that statement. But, that's not my solution at this time. Here are the pics of my new Dee Zee #83B Gold Series Utility Chest ... 46.5"L x 19.063"W x 18.125"H gives me 9.67 cu.ft. I got it for $230+tax from Tractor Supply Company. I plan to secure it to the bed this week.
Gordo: I bought a DeeZee from TSC in December when I got my Scab.....Couldnt get the lid to close tight....Every time we would get som blowing snow the tool box would be filled. (altho probably not a problem in Texas).....I called Dee Zee for advise....all hardware is welded so no adjustment is possible.....They said to put another layer of foam weatherstrip on top of what was there (crappy idea)...or return it to TSC. TSC took it back and replaced it...........S.O.S. I returned it also. Dee Zee is not the quality product that it used to be.
I ended up buying one from Lowes....less money......MUCH better quality!
I have a low profie UWS and it is very nice. The lid is nice and heavy yet the lifts make it easy to raise. It is the only single lid box I have used where the lid closes easily and completely from either side. I have been very impressed. I had the inside spayed by line-x and it make it really quiet and eliminates that chalky stuff that comes from the aluminum and keeps things from rolling around. I could not be happier with it. Remember, you can use the 72" box with the new F150.
My box is not real deep which gives me plenty of room to slide things underneath it and keeps me from having to reach so far down in the box for stuff.
I looked everywhere before buying mine -- online, Lowe's, Home Depot, Pep Boys, TSC, Wal-Mart, custom shops, etc. I know there are much better brands out there, but my primary purpose was simply to have the storage area. I won't have any tools in there ... well, at least not anything expensive. My primary goal was to get a black chest for storage ... that's it. I did not want the aluminum/chrome look, and I did not want it to go over the rails. After getting all of that straight, I was left with the TSC Dee Zee and a couple of $400-500+ models online. And for my usage, what I paid is about all I was willing to put towards it. With no snow, minimal rain, etc., I think I'll be okay here.
