holley750cfm carb on stock 351 in a 78 ford truck? will it work?
I was wondering i have a stock 351M that has a edlbrok sp2p intake on it thats setup for a holley carb. I was wondering can i put a 750 cfm 4 berial carberator on to this motor? I know it will bolt up but will it be to much carb for this motor or not? I would liek to put it on but i figured you guys would know more about this then i would ever know. I would like to know if itll still have bottom and top end power and also how it would run on my motor. Also what kind of jets should i run?
thanks,
jimmy

Reason: mispelled word
That intake is your main problem but a 750 CFM carb is WAY big for a 351M motor. That engine is not a high RPM engine anyway. You can find out more about the 351M in the Cleveland engine forum.
I still have a Holley model 2300 500 CFM 2V that I always enjoyed. I last used it on a 351W in a 77 2wd, and it was very good. I may stick it on a 300 six some day for laughs... heheh
78,
A 351M can handle a 750 carb,... barely. You will get a little flat spot off the idle and a good romp on the throttle will result in a slight bog but, all in all, your truck will love it. If you've got vacuum secondaries this should even make it better. Check your plugs after a run and see what the A/F looks like.... Let us know.
Good Luck,

Go to Holley's website and read the info on selecting the right carb for your engine. It's very imformative. It seems a little conservative though, as I recal reading that a 650 is more than enough for my 460.
Iam running a 600cfm vacuum sec. on a 78 460 running # 66 jets in the primary and a #74 metering block in the back with a power valve that opens at 10 inchs vacuum instead of the 6.5 thats in most factory carbs and it runns great. Engine is all stock and pulls great all the way up to 5800- 6200 rpm. Dosent run hot or lack power of any kind. This engine has over 200,000 on it . Also running 3.00 gears in the back which gets my 60mph rpm downto about 2200 rpm and the truck gets avrg 12-13 mph on the highway. Ive pulled a 10,000 pound tractor with it before and it run great.
