Door Ajar Light / Locks (problems)

2000 E/B Expy: When going down the road the "door ajar" light appears then goes off, then the doors engage to lock (when already locked)?
I looked all over for a button on the doors, but I guess it's a sensor?
Anyone have any suggestions????
Thanks

Do the interior lights come on at the same time? If so, one or more of the door switches that turns these lights on may be sticking. In the good old days, a push button mounted on the door jamb controlled this function. On your Expedition, the switch is hidden from view, as it is located within the latch assembly found in each door, the tailgate and the tailgate window. Give each latch a liberal spraying of WD-40, and cycle each door (tailgate and tailgate window as well).

Hopefully these actions will free the sticky switch.

PaulC is correct about the light, happened on my wife's 97 and it was the driver's door sensor

Thanks for your replies. When I got home yesterday I started to look for a switch or door button and discovered it is not "old school". So, I did spray some lub in the areas. Has not done it again, but I hope that will fix it.
I called the dealer and it sounds like a lot of $$$
Thanks

Can you really get to them just by spraying into the door handles? I would think you would need to remove the pannels or something.

This is a common problem, check around in all of the newer ford forums here for solutions to the problem.

Not the handles. The latches, i.e., the movable steel component built into the door frame to secure the door.
