Ranger diesel?
I ran across an item the other day that indicated that Ford made a diesel ranger , probably mid 90's? I sure would like to know if they did, because I need to tow a light weight 5th wheel travel trailer and would sure like to stick with Ford. I can't afford a new truck, so I am looking for a used mid sized. Thanks for any info on this query.

The diesel was available in 1983-87. The 2.2L was made by Toyo Kogyo (Mazda) and the 2.3L was made by Mitsubishi. I think that all the 2.3's were turbocharged.
The specs I can find show the 2.2L had 59 hp and 90 lb.ft torque, the 2.3 was 86 and 134.
I seem to recall that both of them were pretty gutless and I doubt that you'd be able to tow a 5th wheel.

no diesel for USA right now
Modern Rangers are available with diesels in every country except the USA.
Look for a diesel introduciton on the next generation Ranger due in 2006/07.
A small torquey diesel with a six speed tranny is exactly what this pick up needs. Loose the low range and make 1st gear a creeper for tough off roading or getting that 6K pound trailer moving. Then make it a true 5 speed beyond the creeper instead of the gussied up 4 speed Ford calls a 5 speed now!!

My 87 Diesel Ranger has developed a major problem that can not be repaired here in this part of Alaska. Unfortunately it is being replaced with a 2005 3.0 gas Ranger. I will really suffer with the gas mileage vrs the diesel mileage. The 32 MPG diesel against the 21 MPG gas IF I am very lucky.
Any parts for the 87 are almost to actually non-existant and have been for numerous years.
I wonder if the 2.5 turbo intercooled diesel used overseas could be used to replace my 2.3 turbo that is in my 87?
If Ford ever brings the diesel back to the US I will be one of the first to buy.
