SCT extreme flash microprogramer gives you full user access to 30 key functions including timing and fuel management. Programming actually takes place on your PC and is uploaded to the programmer then you simply plug the unit into your OBD port and flash the computer just like the dealer would. It’s pretty cool. Mine cost me $450, but it’s really worth it.

The sponsor of this board http://www.motorhaven.com sells Superchips. While the tuner for the 4.2 is not listed, Ken could probably get one for you. If he does not sell this model, let me know and I’ll pass on another contact.
You can read about the tuner here http://www.superchipscustom.com/truck_page.php

Thanks for the response Sigma. I checked out the web sites you listed and it looks like I can get a diablo chip from Motor Haven. Do I also need the tuner? It sounds like these are 2 different products and I will need both, is that correct? Would I be wise to shop around for different chips from ifferent manufacturers who may have varying levels of quality? Wat brand do you use and are you satisfied with the power difference and mileage change? What would you recommend? Sorry for alll of the questions; new to this game and trying to learn/figure things out. Thanks for all your help.

Don't shop, just get Diablo. If you want a tuner, wait for the new diablo to come out.
A chip is install and forget, if you get a multi stage there is a little switch that you mount on or under the dash. When you want to change the program, just flip the switch.
Mine has 2 stages plus stock, for 3 switch positions. About $230.00. It works as advertised and I'm real happy.
A tuner will come with a couple of programs built in. To use it you connect to the OBD port and re-flash the trucks computor, takes a couple of minutes. Most tuners also double as a code reader, and you can adjust all kinds of settings on your truck.
If you really know what you are doing, the tuner is much more versitale, and by doubling as a code reader will offset some of the added cost.
Go over to the chips forum and surf around some.
