I have not seen many posts on upgrades of the E4OD automatics.
Have any of you installed deeper pans for more fluid capacity?
What about synthetic oils in the trans. is this good or bad for an automatic.I have always heard that keeping heat down in the trans. is the way to make an auto. last a long time. Do the chips that are on the market make the trannys last longer or do they just make firmer shifts? Or both?
Synthetic fluid stands up to heat much better than regular fluid. Trans temps for ATF in both automatics and manuals should never get above 230*F, that's when seals and things start getting destroyed. It is best to stay under 200*F.
Thanks for the info guys.
Has anyone put an aftermarket torque converter in these auto's
I have heard that the torque converter is the downfall of the e4od.
yes the troque converter is one of the downfalls of the E4OD in the years involved around 93. ford just bent a tab over to hold the fins in place which didn't work. Had to have my tranny rebuilt and the shop welded the fins and spline ring in place.. also a shift kit makes for a smoother and better shifting tranny
