I am having trouble with them. My driver's side hub clicks and clunks quite a bit when I drive, mostly backing up and turning and it drives me crazy. Then today, WHOA! I pulled out of my driveway, turning right and it started KNOCKING, CLUNKING, and SQUEALING very loudly until I turned off the road. I backed up and pulled forward a number of times to see if it was totally unlocked and it was. Then, on my way back home I noticed it slightly ticking with every wheel revolution. I did the same backup procedure and it stopped it. Is something going out or what???
I don't know if that is your hubs or not, sounds suspect though, but on my 93' 4x my hubs went to crap at about 70k miles, factory replacements were about $600 a side. After some minor reaserch I found out I could have a shop install 2 brand new Warn Manual Locking hubs for $250. If your hubs are the problem I would definately go that rout. They are much more durable and dependable. If you are around the Houston area let me know and I will get you the name of the shop that did mine -
It had puch button 4x with auto-locking hubs, I just replaced the auto lockers with the warn manual lockers. One huge advantage was still having wheels locked in, in reverse. But yeh it had auto-lockers and I switched over to the manuals.

On the autolockers do they come unlocked in reverse???
The I believe with the autolockers, they when you put them into reverse, they unlock, and then relock again. Then you put it in forward, they have to unlock and relock again.
Yes your auto lockers do disengage when in reverse, but they re-engage once you have moved or the wheels move a little. Very bad plan if you are stuck because unless you get your wheels to move in reverse you won't have 4x. Trust me if you do any off roading the warn manuals are a much more rugged and dependable plan -
If you are driving one of the new Rangers w/ cv joints, I don't think you will be able to go to manual hubs because the hub is on each side of the stub axle. Can't remember what year rangers went to IFS.
Rangers went to IFS in 98 which I own. I have a 110,000 on my hubs and I beat the crap out of mine off road not one problem. As far a manual hubs for these there is some company out of japan china ???? Or one of those places that make manual hubs for IFS rangers. And as for the backing up with auto hubs I pulled a Toyota with 35s sitting on the frame out in rev with no problems. I like the idea behind manual hubs but mine haven't gave me any problems so I can't say there bad.
