i just learned that so-cal az still drops axles but havent heard back on the price yet to ship it to them, i wasnt looking to spring the dough for the fancy job from mid fifty, but was curious if anybody knew of a place that did dropping the cheapest for the best work. anybody know what it usually runs to go that route?
thanks
thats the one that sparked my interest, they want $395 to do it, bet the reserve is about that, the mid fifty one that was a lot nicer is like 350$. i will probaly do it at a later time.
I'm not familiar with the Mid 50 axle you refer to, but I am familiar with the quality of the work on the Ford passenger car axles they are doing in Arizona, and no one does it better. Their axles are as finely dropped as early Mor-Drops -- uniform webs, no tool marks, no distortion of perchpin or kingpin holes, drop is even end-to-end, no twists or warpping. Truth to tell, no one has ever done it better than these folks. I recently saw an original Model A axle they dropped 4 inches (!) and it's absolutely beautiful! I would not have believed it if I had seen it.
Almost as important as the quality of their work is the timeliness. Their turnaround time is short and they have always hit the target, delivering axles to the shop where I'm a subcontractor (flathead porting/block modifications, crankshaft work, etc.) when the said they would -- no apologies or excuses, just damn fine work that can be counted on.
I have a cenpen dropped axle, I had it powder coated. I have decided to go with the volaire. If you are interested, I let you have it for $300 with shipping.
i would be interested in that axle, i agree from the pics that so-cal does good work, i just was looking at the $$$$$ mostly, i want a old school custom build so i decided to stay with the orig type setup.
