I have a stock 88 model and was wondering what the largest tire that would fit under it and not rub would be? Also what would be the biggest with a 4 inch body lift?
32x11.50 will fitt good 33x12.50 will get by just do not hit any thig big lika a curb or your fenders will feel it. I think i heard that 35s?? will fit with 4" but am not sure
Do not run a 4" body lift! 3" is bad enough, 4" is just plain dangerous! 31"s fit nicely in my opinion, but you can wedge 33"s in there if you shim the bumper forward. Why would you want to run a body lift? Will this truck not be seeing offroad? Is this for looks?
I hate body lifts of any height. However, if you like them, and know everything that has to be done to properly install one, dont go higher than 3". That is the safe maximum. For shocks, I will have (4) Superlift shocks. I currently have a set of OEM shocks. If you want stiff valving, Rancho has shocks for you. If softer, Superlift. There are others, but if you do a search for 'shocks' in this forum, you should get many threads on just that topic.
Okay so I want a 1 or 2 inch body lift and a set of 33's. How can you tell if the quad shocks are behind or in front of the axle. To me it looks like it is right over it.
If you just want a cheap 2" lift, you could get some leveling springs, and an add a leaf for the rear. Im running a 2" (all spring, no block) leveling kit. Thats a far better way to lift versus block, but I digress. Do you have quad shocks? I believe they came with the towing package. They are mounted outboard of the frame rails.
you might wish to check out a suspension lift first.also, maybe do a search in here on people's opinions of body lifts before you make your final decision.my .02
Actually, most any 4x4 forum will hold similar opinion of body lifts. Coming from jeeps and full size jeeps, I've never heard anything good (aside from price, and in that case, as the saying goes "you get what you pay for"). No body lift (or no more than 1-2" but never as the first lift) and no blocks are the rules I was taught to live by, and the rules I intend to live by. Besides, personally, I think seeing the body float way up above the frame is just cheesy.
33"tires fit under stock (I have them myself) but you'll want a 2-4" lift at least for looks if nothing else. NO BODY LIFT on an otherwise stock truck. 1-2" body lift is not too bad as an add-on for a truck with a good 6" suspension lift already installed, but i agree with ubermich. looks very cheesy on a stock truck. Also, Rancho makes some good shocks. check those out too.
my 78 has 33's and an otherwise stock suspension. i was thinking about a 3" body lift, because a guy was talking to me about a friend wanting to trade my 33"s for his 35"s. i figure throw a cheap body lift on to fit the tires temporarily, then get the suspension later, when i can afford it.
and one thing. that leveling kit, what all do you need for it? how much lift do you get? and why not do that with a 2" or 3" body?
i too agree that suspension lifts are best, as a body lift is merely cosmetic, but with body lifts being so cheap, its hard to say no. and they do make skirts to cover up the gap.
