Exclamation Which Gears? HELP ASAP!

I am going from 3.73 with 33 inch tires to either 4.30 or 4.56 gears. My questions is will 4.56 be too much gear?

My calculations show that if I get the 4.56 with the 33 inch tires that I have I will actually be at about 4.30.

Truck is a 2003 F250 Crew Shortbed 4x4.

I am getting this done for about $1300 (4x4). Opinions please!

Thanks for any help.

4.56 would be my choice, if you ever go bigger on the tires you would still have enough gear. I have 4.10's in my truck with 33's, I wish I had the 4.56's. If you do any towing you will love the power you will have. Good luck

Yeah go with 4.56's! You can run 35" tires if you ever wanted to and like Fitter said your power will be good for towing.

I do tow about 10,000 pounds on a 4-6 times a year. Usually it is around 400 miles round trip through mountains.

get the 4.56s, you'll kick yourself on the first mountain pass and you get smoked because of not enough gear..

I have an 01 250 5.4L CC LB W/35" tires and I have the 4.56 gears front & rear. Installed here in MS. for $1400.00. I am very happy with this combo of gears & tires. It doesn't shift out on hills and over passes any more. It pulls HARD too.
I would say if your keeping 33s on your truck you'll be fine with 4.30s. So you will wish for lower gears 4 days a year and be happy 361 other days. I could live with it!

Talking Decision made.

After talking with a bunch of people that own F250's and the driveline shop I have decided to go with the 4.56 gears.

With 33" tires my actual gear ratio will be right at 4.30 so that will work out really well. I also looked at the RPM difference between the 4.30 and the 4.56 gears at 65-80mph and the difference isn't that much. When my current tires wear out I will probably get some 35" tires and a 3-4 inch lift.

Thanks for the info!!!! I love these forums!

Yep. Would be a bad thing not to do the front to.
