Has anyone else heard that a exterra power steering box is a bolt in replacement for early bronco's. I read this just the other day and thought id put the question out there. It would be nice if it is true
Don't know about the exterra, but I used a '86 toyota 4x4 steering box on my '69 and it workred great. There are a few things you have to do to make it fit, but two of the mounting holes line up with the ones on the manual box.
The Early Bronco Registry has a bulletin on their web site that tells you what you need to make the swap. I spent about $300 on the parts.
Hope this helps....

It is NOT a 'bolt in replacement'....but I have heard of people putting one in.
The things I recall that you will have to deal with are modifcation of the pitman arm to accept the drag link....
I'm not sure what you are looking at, but a swap that is popular among the early bronco people is putting the Ford F150 4x2 internals into a Ford 4x4 box.
You can pull both boxes from a yard for around $35 ea and do the swap that is detailed on www.bcbroncos.com.
Ford F150 box you are looking for will come out of the Mid 70's 4x2 F100-F150, the 4x4 box can be pulled from a 78-79 bronco or other 4x4 Ford pick-ups of that timeframe.....
Check out the above website for more details. I personally did not do this swap, I just grabbed a setup off of a 76 and it was plug and play.
