Well I bought a 04 crew cab 4x4. Standerd 3.73 gear ratios long bed with 6.0l diesel. I set up my hitch and hooked up to my 22' nash travel trailer. I headed out to a grade I pass over a lot. Going up east bound I was able to go 70 mph in over drive. Thats cruising at 2000 rpm. Going up the other side was a bit different. Thats the windy side. The truck struggled a bit and was shifted down a couple of gears, but if I pushed it I could of sped up to 70 or so. It was too windy to go that fast so 55 was good enough. I do not usually go that fast towing a trailer but with all the money I spent I wanted to see what this truck could do. This truck did well. But I have to say my old 87 F250 did O.K. My fuel miliage is about 12 mpg average but I only have 680 miles on the truck.I think if I got the 2 wheel drive model it would have done better. My 8 year old son and I desided we needed it all. I have heard of all the mods that one could do but I think I am keeping this truck stock. I am tired of spending my time tinkering . Happy camping all. Hope to see you out there. Bill
Bill! Am I hearing you?? 70?? 55?? This doesn't even begin to show the power of the new 6.0! I have a 30ft camp trailer and fully loaded I cruise 85-90 up and down I-90, mtn. pass or flat road and have no problem aproaching 100. Of course I only get about 7mpg doing this but it does pay to see peoples faces when you blow them away uphill with a huge trailer
I have read the break in concerns. I have rebuilt a few engines in my day and work for a fleet as a mechanic. The owners manual suggested a 500 mile break in period and then another 1000 miles which I plan to do before camping season. Remember , a lot of these trucks are being built for heavy service use. One of my friends owns a tow company. He expects to use his trucks from delivery date. He has been pleased with the 6.0 l engine and had the 7.3l in his tow trucks and personal trucks. The better you treat your equipment the better it will treat you. After reading a lot of these posts I have decided to just get in my truck and drive and stop watching my fuel consumption. Thats why my wife and I have honda's. Bill
