I have my 78 Ford F150 that I have just rebuilt my 351M. I was in such a hurry to get the engine back into the truck before I left for Iraq a year ago that I never got a chance to clean out the engine hull. Now instead of taking my engine back out I figured I'd just slap some of this sound proofing material stuff on, plus it would even help with the noise control so I get 2 for 1 .
My question being where is the best place to get some of this stuff and at what price am I looking at!
Are you looking for sound proofing to go in the cab, like on the firewall? If so check out my gallery. I have done my whole interior with the exception of the floor and firewall (another day's project) with a material called FatMat. It's available at www.fatmat.com or occasionally on ebay. It's exactly like Dynomat but far less expensive. Cuts down on road noise and rattles drastically. I paid $90 for 100sq feet if I remember right. That took care of door panels (outer skin and inner), rear panels, rear wall and head liner. If you're doing a regular cab truck I would imagine 100 sq feet would cover everything.
Also, on the underside of the cab, fenders, and inner fenders I put a product call quitecoat. First I cleaned extremely well, then painted with por-15, then sprayed some of the quite coat on. Excellent product. Then I gave another coat of por-15.
When I did the floors/cab mount replacement in my '75 I used the regular old asphalt mats in the floor followed by some heat insulation (mat covered with foil) and then followed by carpet padding followed by a full rubber mat. I also put some asphalt mats in the doors. Truck is not only quiet it's also a lot cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter compared to my '74 with no insulation...just half a rubber mat.
