Voltage Drop

Went to charlotte on Thurday and right before i pulled into the campgroung i noticed my battery light came on. Parked it and everthing was allright the next day. Drove it around all weekend up their and it was fine. Came home today and 10 miles frome the house the light came back on and the volt meter suddely fell to the floor. I made in home running but windows radio etc. wouldnt work. After i got home and cut it off i tried to re-creank it and it sluggishly turned over but after a few minutes at iidol we were fine again. Seems to me after 3hrs. of straight driving the battery couldnt handle any more but short trips were ok. Does anybody have a clue what it could be. I am leaning towards the battery but would like some input. It is a 99 F150 2wd ext. cab .

How many miles???? Your symptoms sound like very worn alternator brushes. With the brushes worn, the alternator output will be intermittent....

I would also check for corrosion on the battery cables and the ground connections, doesn`t sound like a battery problem because it held a charge overnight and also charged back up after you got it running. After checking all connections,if you find no problems, then I would have the alt tested.Like Bob said, the brushes might be wearing out,or the int V.R. might be going bad
