Is there any way to make a 1973 tailgate fit on a 67 to 72 truck? They are so much cheaper, and can be found at JCWhitney for a fair shipping price. Otherwise, a replacement costs at least $150 plus another $100 to ship.
Do they look that bad? Wish somebody had a pic of one on an older truck.
I have one on mine.
They're not horrible, but not great either.
If I have time this week, I'll try to post a picture of mine.
The biggest difference is that on the '73+, the inner pannel tapers with a bevel back to the sides of the outer support frame, while the '67-'72 has well defined square frame sides.
I'm trying to figure out to fabricate and re-attach the support pin on my old one so I can recycle the '73 gate.
That $150 price sounds cheap.
Often cheaper ones those don't have the "F O R D" stamped on them.

Yeah...it's not stamped with F O R D across the back. You can purchase the tailgate and the F O R D skin through LMC, but it's still steep. I just hate the way other suppliers charge so much for shipping. There must be a huge tax advantage.
For a replacement tailgate I would not recommend JCW or some of the other suppliers listed. Those cheap tailgates are made with soft steel and they will bend and dent easy. They look like hell real quick. Get a tailgate made on OEM dies so that the steel used is high strength steel. The OEM dies won't work with soft steel.
