what i need to look for

this week i will be going and getting quotes on paint and bodywork. First what should a normal paint job cost. normal paint job meaning great for everyday driveing but not quite show quality. What will i need to ask. SHould i look at a car they have painted. NOW onto the bodywork, what should it cost to have dents taken out and prep work for the paint. Oh and also should the paint shop have some sort of paint chips that i will be able to look at, or will i need to find the color on my own. where would i go about looking at colors on the internet.

Looking on the internet won't do you much good for picking out a color, probably not too accurate, do to different monitors and stuff. Most shops should have a color chip book but those are not completely accurate either. Or else you could stop into your local auto paint supply store that mixes paint. Or if you see a color you like on a car try to get the paint code. Paint jobs usually start around $1500 for the same color. Its quite a bit more to change the color because of the extra work involved. Don't know how much for the dents, I think it depends on how many and how big they are. The shop should not be afraid to let you see some cars they are working on in the shop. Ask people around your area for recommendations on shops. Also have to be comfortable with who is doing the work. If they have a lot of certificates it should show they take the work seriously and invest in keeping up to date with the latest repair techniques and products.

Great advise.

An auto paint store is where to go. They have about a gazillion different chips so you can select a color. Once you have made a selection, write down the numbers so they can mix it later.

Around my parts, a color change would run about $1400-$1600. The cost go up from there.
