Decisions??

Well, up front I would like to say I am sorry if this is not posted in the proper area, but I am not looking to advertise anything for sale here, only to get advice on what I should do. Today my wife tells me that if I sell my 1968 project truck which is about 80% finished, I can buy a NEW 2004 F150 XLT 5.4L EXTRA CAB 4X4!!! Wow what a deal. I accepted her offer but here is the problem. I have about $7,500 in this truck and alot of parts and such still left to put on including a beautifully polished aluminum grille and headlight doors. Most of my investment is in the 390. About $3K in this motor. I figure with a paint job and a little more tinkering, this would be a good daily driver. Put a rebuilt C6 in it with the new engine and 3.25 rear end. Purrs at highway speeds. Anyway, figured I would never get out of it what I had invested in it so I thought maybe $5,500 would be a fair price to ask and just wanted to know what everyone thought about the price? Too high, too low? Again this is not an ad to sell my truck, just looking for some input from those who know the value of these trucks. Body is in great shape. Fenders, hood, inner fenders, core support are all rust free. Frame is solid, bed is solid with some rust underneath and the cab has new floor pans, new cab mounts and supports. The doors are in great shape with beautiful west coast mirrors and the bench seat doesn't even have a hole in it. Dash pad has no cracks the only thing missing is the original radio. Thanks for any help, I am sure any of you would accept a deal like this from your wives too.

wait I see a typo there, lets try this

"Today my wife tells me that if I sell my 1968 project truck which is about 80% finished, I can buy HER a NEW 2004 F150 XLT 5.4L EXTRA CAB 4X4!!!" yea that sounds right.

so you're selling your project truck that you put your time and your money in because she wants a new truck?
IMHO I'd finish the 68 and then buy a new truck and keep the 68.

I saw that same typo. I agree with F150daniel, finish the 68 and then buy a new truck for the wife and keep the 68 for yourself.

She has a new Isuzu Rodeo, she is just getting tired of me sinking money into my project and also getting tired of it taking up space in the driveway. I also very much like the look of the new F150's.

No way, no way........ the truck is worth so much more than the money you put into it. 2004 rubbermaid special ? You'll trade it in 3 years. You're nuts junior.

And the new one will depreciate much faster.
Ten or twenty years from now, the '68 will be worth about the same or more, while the 2004 will be worth considerably less.

You'll get even less of what you invested in the '04 when you resell.

I'm not sold on the '04's, you have a 25% chance of getting one with a vibration problem that Ford and the dealers can't fix. Check out the newer model forums and try to gleen as much information to see what you're getting into, maybe wait for the '05's.

You realize that by selling the '68 you will be buying a truck it is much more difficult to work on yourself?

Boy N2, I dunno. Around here that would be awful tough to get that much for it unless it was completely rust free. But, most our trucks don't have a lot of rust on them, so in parts of the country that are used to rust, a relatively rust free truck is probably worth more. It's all relative. If you are not in a hurry to sell, the right buyer is probably out there.
