Hey fellas, I'm looking for a new truck, and have settled on this body style.
I also need too know, someyone told me that some of the early years did not come with the smog crap. Is there any years and engine combos that did not come with cats and smog pumps?
I am looking for a early 80s Std. cab long bed 2wd F-150. It will work/towing/toy.
unfortunatly i don't believe there is a way to avoid the cats (unless you go deisel). however if you go with 80 to 83 you don't have a carb with all the sensor crap.
the F250's and F350's HD trucks didnt have cats and if you get a non california truck it wont have a bunch of other smog stuff either i have a 84 f250 HD federal standards smog truck with a 460 all it has is a smog pump and i took the belt off it the day it got smogged thats all mine has but i think the f150s and the f250 light dutys had the smog stuff i know the 84 f150 i had for a few months had a cat and a smog pump with a bunch of other stuff
not sure i know a guy who has a 79 f100 custom with a 300 6 and it has a smog pump but i dont think a cat so im sure the 80 to 86 f 150s and 100's for those few years they where around had them to i wouldnt go with a half ton either i like the 3/4 suspension and HD axles they will never wear out
Well, I guess since texas is getting closer to the tailpipe sniffing thing I might just go for an early 80s f-150 and drop my engine with no pump and high flow cats, that should put out less crap than stock anyway. My main reason for looking for an incomplete truck like this is because I had parted out my 83 bronco and have tons of parts for this style of truck, and want to ut some of it too use.
I would like too find this truck with a standard, what is probly my best bet, I'm guessing most will of had an I-6 or 302.
