A/C Cycling Question

My compressor seems to click on and off intermittantly, and the A/C really doesn't blow cold. I bought a recharge kit and plugged it into the fitting on the oblong thing (dryer?). The gauge was reading that it was overcharged, but was fluctuating due to the compressor turning on and off.

1. Did I plug the gauge into the right spot?

2. If it's overcharged, how do I bleed off the gas.

3. Does overcharging cause the compressor on/off cycle, and does that cause the warm air?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds low to me

I am not an expert but when my Ranger begins to do this it's time to add R-134 coolant. If this is the problem it is pretty simple operation. Is it possible the system is over full? Has anyone worked on it lately? The system can only leak coolant it cannot produce it on it's own. Try adding some to it and see it that works. Best of luck!

My 2000 Explorer is doing the exact same thing, I serviced it once and it worked for about a month. It quit blowing cold air again so I serviced it again and it shows overcharged but still blows warm air! Ant Ideas?

If you've overcharged the system, it's not going to be able to cool the air, and so it will basically be just as useless as if it were undercharged. I did this to my 95 Explorer a couple of years ago, I foolishly went from undercharged to overcharged and then got upset when it didn't work.

I am not sure what kind of kit you are using, but mine had a hose that could connect to a gauge or a refrigerant bottle. If the hose were connected to nothing, of course, it would allow refrigerant to escape, not that this is the EPA approved method of doing that.

Anyway, once I got my pressure back down to where the system was designed for it to be, I was rewarded with arctic blasts from my vents.

I just tryed the "escape" method as suggested. When I started to re-fill with coolent I still got no cool air coming out! The gage on my refill kit go's from green (undercharged) to Blue (charged) when the compressor kicks in. Am I suppose to have the gauge reading "blue" when the compressor kicks in? The compressor is running for a second every 7 seconds? Please help!

Thanks
Doug

I played with the recharge kit again tonight and found out that my AC needs over 2 small cans of r134 to recharge it. Also, the gauge I bought at checker kept showing overcharge until I got almost 2 cans in there then it started showing an acurate reading! Now it blows cold air like its suppose to!
