"Our Country"
IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture since the terrorist attacks on Sept 11.
We have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity.
As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!
"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle.
Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But, once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

I think many of us here on FTE will agree with this, and if you don't - well, please re-read and take the hint...
I wouldn't mind seeing immigration stopped altogether in the USA. Most immigrants have too much pride in being a minority to ever become a true American. Ever been to the Bronx? More Puerto Rican flags than American flags. Ever go to a middle eastern deli? Flags of Jordan, Syria, Iran....on the wall. Not one American flag. In the south you see illegal mexicans several times a day with mexican flag license plates on the front of their cars NOT American flags. How many of these immigrants bother learning to speak understandable english?
Yet we will tell white S. Africans that are trained in a American schools to be Dr.'s, scientist, accountants, and so on to get lost because they are not what "we"(the US) want. "We" don't want anymore white people here according to the govt.
Just ask yourself when was the last time you saw a white immigrant? Now ask when was the last time you saw a middle easterner, a Asian, hispanic, etc.... you get the picture.
I'm not being racist here but why are white people not allowed to come here and all other groups are welcomed with open arms (and govt. welfare)?

I am really irritated today, May Day, with the commie pinkos and anarchists. In my town, Portland Or, the local commies are having a parade. The last few times they had their parade, they trashed the town and vandalized businesses. Now the police are on the alert for a repeat behaviour. The commies did not get a parade permit as every "normal" group does. They claim that the Constitution grants them the right to freedom of speech so they don't need the permit and they can do as they wish during the parade. I love it when an organization, that in my mind is devoted to removing the Constitution, uses it to protect their right to do so.
I guess I am just irritated that they only uphold the rights granted by the Constitution when it protects their right to destroy it. They forget that those rights are granted so long as they don't infringe on the rights of others, like personal safety, property etc.
Like the other guy said, it is a shame they don't use their right to leave and go to another country where their beliefs are appreciated, like Cuba, China, N Korea etc. I don't consider myself an ethinic or ideology basher but it burns me up when they B and Moan about how bad America is. Go talk to Sadam about it ya pinkos. I'm not usualy this rabid, but that bit about it being their Constitutional right set me off.

If you want to contribute that's all right with me, but if you're looking for a free ride, I suggest that you don't even think of getting in line.
Here in Southern California I tell them all the time, "If you don't like the way it is here and America isn't your friend, the solution is three little letters....L-A-X! (Los Angeles International Airport)
They're always taking reservations (complaints) and they're always going to where ever it is you need to go."
So next time America pisses you (the complainer)off, take your own advice and go where the grass is greener.
Biting the hand that feeds them and then complaining because it's not as fresh as they would like it. Please!!!
Man, I'm feed up!
My wife is English. When I go to the aiprport to pick my wife up, I always see "guests" from all over the world simply cruise on by as my wife gets the third degee from INS and US Customs.
If all the immigrants were required to jump through as many hoops as my wife does, heck, they'd have an Olympic team already trained up!
Whew! Don't get me started!
how come all those US companies are up here looking for trained people?
I can't count how many friends I know get edcuated and then get scouted in the big US job fairs up here..
...we are losing doctors, nurses, engineers to big US$$$. We pay to educate them..then off they go...who gains here!
..the only thing we can't export is lawyers...

We are letting in Thousands of undesirables every year in the form of immigration from other lands.
Yet for example: The Canadian government is making it very difficult for my Cousin in England who is has 3 engineering degrees very DIFFICULT for him and his young family from entering.
All the while, letting ANYONE in from non-caucaison countries and be an Immediate DRAIN on our health system & offering nothing.
We now have americans coming in to take advantage of our Free health system or social services (welfare)then going back to the states all while having their cheques forwarded to them.
We have a Corrupt Federal Government and NOT ONE of those imbeciles would do with their OWN money what they do with Taxpayers Money.
NOT ONE !
To me ,this has gone on ,too long, 10-20 years too long !
And yes, we do have a brain drain.

If you really want to see a country where the citizens have had it with open borders policies, look what's happening in France right now. And I predict it will soon spread to Italy.
Nothing happens by accident. I don't remember who said it but it is true. The reason America has such porous borders and lax immigration policies is NO accident. There are highly placed people who firmly believe in the concept of world government. But in order for globalism to succeed, national soveriegnty must be destroyed. One way to do that it to flood the country with immigrants, thereby diluting and eventually destroying the culture of the country. With no national culture left, soveriegnty falls of its own accord.
I am not advocating a complete ban on immigration, but I do believe America desperately needs to tighten its immigration policies. I am also a firm advocate of English as the official language. In the late 1800's, immigrants sought to learn the language and assimilate in the culture. They knew that they needed to do so so that their children could be succesful in the "new country." In the process they strengthened the fabric of America. Sadly this is no longer the case in many instances.
And that is to the detriment of us all.
"The Guardian"
I had a dream last night so real; I’d almost swear it true
Down on the beach there stood a man, in a tattered cloak of blue
As I looked at him, he turned to me with a hard look in his eye
And as he spoke these words there was no question as to why:
“We came from far off countries, the outcasts of foreign lands
To make a place worth living in, without tyranny at hand
And we were few at first, the villagers who cleared the trees
And shaped the wood which built our homes, in this land of the free”
“We gave our sons and daughters the best teaching that we could,
Because we wanted them to be all of those things we call “good”.
A people who know charity, who would take care of their own
And any others in distress, who found themselves alone…”
“Down through the years this colony became a mighty nation
Where everyone may speak their mind, regardless of their station.
And all of this we built ourselves, one stone upon another
When we fought for Independence, we were standing with eachother…”
“But now I see the evil coming from far overseas…
It has found homes here in some of you, and on them it doth feed.
It is the nature of it, ‘twill consume thy very soul
And ruin men once strong and true, though they were fit and whole”
“It rots the spirit from inside, like a bad apple in a bin
And drives the most stout hearted into committing mighty sins
And so I urge thee, look at you! Before it is too late…
I tell you that this weighty curse is nothing less than hate”
“Look you” he said, and pointed “what is written in the news…
There are tales here of Americans treated as the **** treated Jews!
And this done by our own countrymen! How could this ever be?
That our citizens themselves are beaten in the streets!”
“And all for that a madman far away weaves webs of lies,
In consequence of which, five thousand of our people died…
It is with heavy heart I stand here, telling you these things
For if we fight amongst ourselves, what can tomorrow bring?”
He seemed so sad, but shed no tear, and peered out at the sea
‘Tis up to you and yours, this time. The things which come to be
We’ve done our best, and brought you up, to keep eachother free”
A cloud passed then, before the moon, and when it had moved on
I looked again at where he’d stood, and found that he was gone
It troubles me, the words he said. But I find that they were true
The things of which he’d spoken had been on the nightly news
Though I cannot speak for everyone, I can do so for me and mine
I will not stand by watching anyone committing such a crime

And at about the time I had written this and posted it as I remember, my own mother was found stretched on her apartment floor - victim of a stroke. She died 2 weeks after.
I will say this here just this one time, that she made a difference. And among the other accomplishments my mother can count to her memory were the many students from other lands to whom in her retirement she taught english.
Yes, she did that. And social studies, and history, and whatever the young from other nations needed that she could provide.
And the only reason that she did these things, was because:
A) She cared about people, no matter who they were...
B) She was interested, and could not travel anymore.
And her's is a legacy that I now keep. And I am still able to travel far and wide - like her, I love it....
In her late 70's she drove across Canada to Alaska, just to take pictures and to paint.
And collect words and culture from everywhere, to share with everyone else.
And so with all of this to treasure, I look at the strange mini-cultures we can find in most of our cities, and am fascinated because the wonders of an entire world wait only my desire to come to those places and explore them for myself. Without having to travel all the way around the Earth.
Be careful what you wish away - it might be gone forever...
Yes, I will agree that there should be a common language. And that a citizen should understand well and become one with a nation that they choose to join. And this is often hard, especially for those with skills that are not profitable here.
But there is not one "American" whose original ancestors did not come from far away.
Excepting only "Native Americans", who were here in the first place...
I believe it is the mark of a true "Citizen" that we learn to appreciate, rather than despise those around us.
As to Canada, and it's policies - I don't know enough to comment, even though my many-times-great Grandfather on my Mothers side - Alexander - originally emigrated to there, in 1800 (From Ireland)...

The homeless population in Atlanta keeps growing by leaps and bounds as time passes. As we walked, we were approached by numerous people wanting money, a cigarette, etc. I try not to turn away, but I will not just hand someone money. I will be glad to make sure they get a meal, buy it for them, but I do not believe in the charity of letting them waste the money.
As we rounded a street corner, there was a homeless shelter that the signs were written in Spanish, and had more than 50 people inside and waiting by the doors. As we approached, a white gentleman I am guessing somewhere around the age of 50-60, trid to get in line. He was pushed away by about 4 men in line, and yelled at in Spanish. The man looked at them and told them he just wanted something to eat and a place to rest for a few hours, and then he would move on. The group of men got larger, and only ONE spoke English well enough to tell him that was not a place he was welcome.
Myself and the 4 men went over to help the man, and our wives crossed the street to stay out of harm's way. I told the gentleman to come with us. We found a corner deli where we bought him food, and sat for an hour with him listening to his story while he rested. He thanked us for our kindness, wanted us to give him our names so that one day he could repay his "debt" as he called it. Then the man went on his way, notaccepting anything else from us.
This gentleman served his Country during Vietnam, worked numerous factory jobs, to which most are now out of business, and has had the type of life most of us cannot even imagine.
When I came in to work this morning and received the email I posted, words cannot describe the feelings I had. The distaste for people like that were at the Spanish shelter literally brings out anger.
I respect a person who does something, or moves somewhere to better their lives and family. I DO NOT HAVE A USE IN THE WORLD FOR PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY CAN COME HERE AND LIVE OFF THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT AND WILL NOT PUT FORTH THE EFFORT TO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR SOCIETY. Our government has let these people into our societies and lives long enough. I will do whatever is in my power to help a person who comes here and put their heart and soul into making their life and families life better, no matter where they come from, their racial background, anyhting. But the others -
I thank the responses that have been given. At least it shows there are others who believe it is time for change also. I do not mean to come across as a person who is not forgiving or caring, but there has to be lines drawn somewhere. And what I saw last night went beyond any boundary I can cross.
I am not for government waste or not working for a living. My family (both from Depression) frowned upon even buying things on credit..if you couldn't afford it you didn't buy it. I still live (mostly) by that rule - I do as much as I can myself and buy when I can afford it.
I grew up in a small rural fishing town..a place, like most, where white (rich) urban doctors weren't keen to practice. It was a rough place with little money - living was from forestry and fishing. Many of the doctors who went to these areas were immigrants who Canada brought in. Although they were different(and frequently dark)their contribution was surely appreciated. They filled in when other "citizens" wouldn't.
I'm against abuse of the immigration system and living off the system. But I see hard working immigrants doing things other wouldn't.
We were all immigrants at one time.
