Started up my neighbours '86 F-250 with a 6.9l diesel the other day but it wont drive. I can push the clutch in and put it into gear fine, but when I let the clutch out the rpm's drop a little and I can hear the throw-out bearing clanking a little. I can let the clutch out all the way in gear and the truck doesn't even budge. What can I suspect? The guy is trying to tell me that the hydraulic clutch part of the system doesn't work and needs to be bled. I told him if that was the case the gears would grind trying to get it into gear and the clutch release arm wouldn't move when you push in the clutch.
Or there is damage in the trans, like perhaps a shorn input or out put shaft.
Did you try all the gears including reverse?
It just might be first gear.
Then again I saw a rear end that had a broken input (pinion shaft) and the drive line turned but it went no where.
I also saw someone who had their drive line stolen that night and when they brought it in for warranty work, we all had a good laugh.
