I keep getting this message from my Norton firewall: A remote system is attempting to access Microsoft Generic Host Process for win32 services on your computer.
Good question Mike W. I've seen 4 of those in my Win task manager. Someone also told me to have 24 processes running is way too many. I dunno, does anyone here know?
i'm gonna go read the link the link droptop provided.
svchost is a system process of some sort that cannot be terminated. I would allow it and not worry about it.
As for processes running...WinXP is terrible about running things that you don't need. I have my computer tweeked to only run what I use. I have about 18 processes running right now. 3 of them are AVG and one is Diskeeper, so Windows is only runningabout 14 of its own. This will start you on the right track towards a faster, more stable OS. http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
On another note: Norton is crap, plain and simple. Not trying to offend you or anything. My AVG catches a whole lot more than Norton ever did on my computer. And it doesn't use near as much system resources to run.
