That's a really good question. I just spent the last 1/2 hr. searching the internet and came up with everything else but this. I've got the same unit in my '71, although I'm eventually swapping it out for a NP205 when I build my 460/C6 (which is married) for the big swap.
If no one knows, then maybe this weekend I'll crawl under mine and put chalk marks on both the input and output d-shafts and let it spin and see what it comes out to. I'll report what I find unless someone beats me to it. Also depends on the weather, cause it's supposed to rain and she's parked in the mud and the garage is being used as a paint booth right now.
Thanks for the replys, I was wondering what the reduction is cause I was thinking if I reverse the t-case I'll have normal hauling gears in high range, then I could switch into low range which would act as an over drive unit..... As long as the t-case isn't 2 to 1 reduction I might end up with good highway gears. I got 4.1 now, if there is 30% reduction I gain 30% by having the t-case mounted the over way around which would make the rear end seem more like a 3.0 to 1 gears.... Thats the idea anyways
sorry to burst your bubble but the dana 24 gear reduction is a 2:1 in low range. i have that case in my 67 ranger 250. i have the original owners manual which tells about low range. i run 37 inch super swampers and have 4.56 axel ratios and have thought of switching the case direction myself for a long time because i hate driving around town at rediculous rpm going not that fast. recently i picked up another case so what im gonna do it run it backwards in front of my current case and this will give me a 0.5:1 ratio in 4th gear and it should do fine on the street but i can also put the case that is in backwards back into high range and have normal gears and can still have 2:1 in low in my normal case and i dont want to loose that low because i do lots of serious off-raod stuff where low is needed.
that transfer case mating sounds cool...Too bad I only got one case. I haul heavy loads and drag stuff around with my 2wd so I got 4.10 rear. As always looking for some highway drivability, looks like its back to the drawing board.
