Drawbacks...

Okay, I'm thinking about getting rid of my truck and replacing it with an Excursion. What are the good and bad sides of them? I know that the sheer size of them can probably be bothersome and they probably don't get the best mileage, but what else? I'm not worried about the mileage because I have never had a vehicle that would get over 15mpg. Thanks

Mike

As opposed to????

For example, my X rides much better and is much quieter than my '99 F250 PSD, but does not corner nearly as well as my Volvo C70 coupe. But, my Volvo won't pull my trailer or seat 8 people.

Everything is relative.

My 01 Ex got pretty good mileage....around 15 in town and up to 20 on the road...it was 7.3 2wd.....the ride was a little stiffer than my superduty crewcab but is was great with all the room inside....the rear air was definitely a plus....but you will miss the truck if you need to haul anything that is big or bulky.....I went back to a crewcab pickup (04 6.0) with an 8ft bed...both are great you won't be disappointed....good luck

I'll list some of the bad points ---
ALL the family can fit into - including the crying grandkids
You get ask to "loan" it out every so often since THEIR car can't hold all their stuff...
You have to embarass the "racers" every once in a while because they're going to show off and pass this big beast they can't see around...

You end up driving everywhere because everyone wants to ride in the nice, big car with the cold a/c in front and back !

But since it's fun to drive (especially once you do the mods!) you don't mind.

but other than that it is the BEST traveling vehicle I've ever owned...
and ALMOST have it modded to the point it's "mine" - almost !

Sorry, this is the Ford Truck Enthusiasts Site in spite of some of the post you see here...
but we just try to help

Compared to what is a good question. Suburban, pickup, etc?

It all depends on what you will be using the rig for. If you need to haul kids and gear then it is great. Great tow vehicle, but I miss my truck for sheer utility. Once the kids are gone I will go back to a crew cab pu with a canopy. But for now the Excursion is the best rig for my day to day.
Like you, I have never considered MPG in my buying decision. I get what I need and the cost of gas is small compaired to the cost of the vehicle.
Good luck.
Pat
