hey i have a 88 f 250 4x4 just woundering what kind of front axle i have its bolted to leaf springs if this help... Also wondering if anyone nows what kind of a trans maybe in this beast i got???? ps the trans is auto matic with 302 in it for a motor

Well, the front axle is most likely a Ford IFS Twin Traction beam which is a modified Dana 44 design (8.5" ring gear). There were a few auto transmissions available in 1988. The C6, the AOD and the E4OD. Look on the driver side dorr jamb label, if the code under "TR" is a "G", it's a C6, if you have an "E" it's the E4OD and if you have a "U" or a "T", it's the AOD. F250's with the 4.9L I6 and 302 V8 are actually F250LD's (Light Duty). The rear axle is a Ford/Sterling 10.25" semi-floating axle. The HD's (with 351W, 460 and 7.3 Diesel are Heavy Duty) will have the same Ford Sterling 10.25" but will be a full-floater axle. the full floaters are much stronger but you'd have to get up pretty early in the morning to bust either one.
