I did not find this topic covered before, and none of my automotive books shed any light on this...
Do you have to resurface the cylinder walls every time you use a ridge reamer when removing pistons? I wanted to have my block cleaned and want to remove the pistons. There isn't a distinct ridge in the bore but I was concerned I'd have problem later on if I didn't use one before removing the pistons. This is the difference in me needing a new block or not, which I am trying to avoid (you can get on me for being cheap, that's fine).
If you did not have a noticable ridge, why use the reamer? The only thing you will destroy are the rings and you plan on replacing those anyway. If you have used one and you are taking the block to the shop, just have them clean it up for you while they are at it, better safe than sorry.
