When slowing and almost coming to a stop. The tranny "appears" to shift to a low gear (lower than what you normally start out in from a dead stop) and won't shift up. It does it hot or cold. Today when it did it, I turned the overdrive on/off, move the gear shift to 1st, 2nd, and back to drive and it still wouldn't shift up. I even place the tranny in nuetral and it DIDN"T GO TO nuetral but rather kept "rapping up". The only way to get it to shift up when it does this is to let off the gas and the depress the accelaerater quickly. When it does finally shift up, it jerks very hard. I've had it to a Ford dealer here and they "plugged it into the computer" which indicated nothing was wrong. The problem is inermittent but is becomming more frequent. And of coarse, when I had it to the dealer he couldn't replicate the problem. Please help and thanks!
Does it kill the engine? My 97 would lock the converter up and not release till the after engine died. Then I could put in park and she would start up ok and go into drive. Where was your truck made? Check Blueovalnews.com for a warning about some 2001 trannys that are being recalled for a defect.
Hope this helps. I ended up trading mine in for a 2001 f250 PSD. So far everything seem OK.
Thanks for the response... The engine doesn't die. Matter of fact, it appears to be running fine when this problem ocurrs. The real strange thing, as I mentioned before, is that it didn't go out of gear when I placed it in neutral. I plan on taking it to antoher dealer next week. I'll mention the converter to them. Also, I looked on blueoval.com and couldn't find any info on tranny recalls. Did you actually see it there or were you just mentioning a point of possible reference?? Thanks a bunch!
