Tailgate question

I just got an ARE camper with a full walk in door so they took off the tailgate and attachment assembly. How do I take off the King Ranch emblem without damaging the door or the emblem (I want to put it on the camper door)?

Anyone need an extra tailgate?

I would imagine you could remove it just like a standard badge. It should be attached with double stick tape. You may want to use a heat gun to soften the tape, but also watch melting the badge. The old badge on my 2002 F-350 was starting to come off on its own. You may also want to use a thin, plastic putty knife or fishing line to seperate it. I believe there are also a couple of locating pins for alignment, so don't try twist it.

You may want to keep the tailgate in case you ever want to sell the truck without the camper.

Yeah I would keep the tailgate but I know someone posted on this question recently and said that there are holes under some of the emblems.

I was always told to use fishing line with weights attached, then allow the weights to "pull" through the tape as you heat it up. Although this won't work if the emblem has alignment posts. You might just want to look into ordering one, couldn't imagine it costs that much.

cool. Thanks. I will try the razor blade. Then figure out how to get it to Sulconst2. I think there are only holes under the Ford Emblem since they use the same tailgate for all model trucks.

wow, I looked on Ebay and was surprised at how many slightly used F150/250/350 King Ranch trucks were for sale, but no emblems.

I could not find the emblem to buy another. Did you lose your rims? I do not plan on changing the tire size so will keep the rims for awhile.

I like the 18" King Ranch rims better then the 16" ones.

Well, the King Ranch emblem does have the metal posts to help align it. I felt them while running a razor around the edge of the emblem. It was only 1/4" in not sure if there are more but probably at least one more.
